Google Search Engine Optimization - SEO - Disallow Javascript pop ups
December 10th, 2006 by choim
It seems that Google does not like Javascript and may not even index pages that are linked with a javascript. With my company BoomYEAH, we had a link that had javascript to open another window. The format of the hyperlink was something like ‘a xhref=”javascript:openNewPage(’/members/joe/’)” mce_href=”javascript:openNewPage(’/members/joe/’)” Joe’s BoomYEAH homepage /a’.
For a few months, Google would not index our pages (even after our company website has been up for more than 9 months). We eliminated all the ‘javascript links’ and after about a month or so, Google started indexing our pages like crazy.
Regardless to say, our traffic through Google skyrocketed. It may be that our company site was still in the Google Sandbox but more likely, I believe it was the elimination of Javascript links that helped the indexing process. (Visit BoomYEAH - a better way of finding local businesses to see my company’s website).
you are completly right, i had the same problem o my site and creating a static link solved the problem
Google would definitely index a properly coded link. No modern coder should use this type of link anymore.
Write a proper xHTML link, give it an ID and then attach a javascript behavior to this element and all will be well. Google (and other search engines) will index, javascript enabled web browsers will inherit the behavior and others (ie. non-javascript users) will follow.
The way this was coded not only search engines but many visitors could not follow through… just a thought.
Awesome I am glad you guys took my advice I sent, when I did you initial consultation.
